Russell living up to his wordIn December, Madison businessman Rick Russell announced a plan to bring two new businesses a year for five years to Madison. Last week he announced that his company is bringing 30 jobs to the county with the acquisition of Production Handling Systems Inc. of Franklin, Indiana. The company does business as Hovair Automotive. Russell is owner of R&T Steel and Wire Co. and also is CEO of Midwest Tube. Russell has shown his willingness to make a commitment to Madison. His plan to bring small to medium sized businesses is one that should serve the community well. The jobs coming to Madison are considered "high-end" and should bring good wages. New jobs will include engineers, pneumatic assemblers and welders. Company officials said there could be additional hiring down the road. Hovair specializes in ergonomically designed equipment for the automotive industry. The company markets and sells products under the Kahlman Lift Assist, ENZA Systems and American Turn Table names. The acquisition will also increase Madison's role in the global economy. In addition to North America, Hovair has a sales presence in South Africa, Australia, France, Germany, Northern Europe and the United Kingdom. Russell has bought the buildings and land that formerly housed Reliance Electric and US Filter/Envirex on Michigan Road north of Clifty Drive. Last month the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce honored Midwest Tube Mills for its commitment to the Madison area. Russell, when the award was announced, seemed truly surprised. The reality is that the community is taking note of what Russell and his companies are accomplishing. We welcome the news and hope that Russell is able to continue his mission to bring more jobs and help Madison's economy grow.
